Yess BMX’s new OS20 experiment

Yess BMX is not shy about experimenting with new things (see their belt drive cruiser or their Project 2024) and it looks like they have cooked up something new again.

Introducing the 20os20 concept build.

The idea is to combine the smoothness of the OS20 steering with the gearing/tire/rollout selection of a regular 20″ race bike.

However, the concept isn’t entirely new.

Similar concepts have been tried in both motocross and downhill MTB.

Closer to the OS20/22″ side of things, United rider Kyle Forte experimented with running a 22″ front end on his 20″ (before making the switch to a full 22″ ride that ended up being his signature model, the KF22)

According to Forte in canyoudigitbmx.com:

This is when I decided to try a 22” front wheel & longer fork on the front of my UTD 20”. My thinking was that it would raise the front end & slack the head angle out & make the bike less twitchy & more relaxed. I tried it & looked a bit odd, but I could feel the difference. The main downside was that it made my bike super easy to loop out. From the success of the experiment, I really wanted to run a 22” on the rear & dial a frame in to suit me.

Will the big wheel in front/small wheel in back combo work in racing better than did for Forte at the trails?

Time will tell.

Kyle Forte shreds KF22 in new vid

We checked out Kyle Forte’s new United signature model, the KF22, a couple weeks back and took note of Kyle’s claim that it would hold special appeal to tall riders.

We didn’t doubt Kyle on that, but the real question we wanted to know is…how does it ride?

Well, Kyle provides the answer in this new promo vid for the KF22.

He flat out shreds on it.

Check it.

The United KF22’s tall appeal

The details of Kyle Forte‘s much anticipated new signature United KF22 complete created a bit of buzz on the interwebs when they were released this past Friday.

And no wonder…

It’s a solidly spec’d complete…and on top of that canyoudigbmx.com got the scoop in the form of an interview on what motivated Kyle to make the jump (pun sorta intended) to the 22″ wheel size.

It’s a great read and encapsulates a lot of what people are saying about 22s.

Of particular interest to this site, however, was Kyle’s belief that 22s are a great option for tall riders:

…this bike will appeal to the taller rider as well. The only options until now for taller BMX riders have been to lengthen your top tube, or put on higher bars & perhaps a longer stem. Riding a long low limo isn’t ideal & putting on really tall bars is likely going to either shorten your top tube if you run your bars back like I do, or if you run bars past the forks put your weight forward over the front. The 22”…looks like a bigger, in proportion BMX when you put it alongside a 20” with similar specs.

Solid points for sure.

I’m looking forward to seeing one of these up close.
